Perhaps you're familiar with the idiom, "Absence makes the heart grow fonder." But, did you know that the earliest form of the saying was written by a Roman poet named -- now, get this -- Sextus Propertius!?!
Go figure.
Actually, it was more like:
"Always toward absent lovers love's tide stronger flows."
According to a report in Reuters, lovers will soon learn to appreciate the centuries old proverb in a whole new light and, as Citizen Sextus has so cleverly put it, "bask in the flow" through a high-tech wine glass!
"Researchers have come up with a novel way to keep long-distance lovers in touch -- high-tech wine glasses that glow warmly however far apart the pining couple are. When either person picks up a glass, red light-emitting diodes glow on their partner's glass. When one puts a glass to their lips, the other glass glows brightly. Distance is not a problem as liquid sensors and wireless links have been built into the glasses. The loving cups are to be unveiled next month at a conference in Montreal on computer-human interaction."
Now, you know that the computer-human interaction community -- that's CHI if you're techie -- has their own blog, of course! And even though it may sound a tad boorish to some -- here's hoping The Food Network inspires some egghead to finally invent smell-a-vision -- there are those of us who perhaps find geeks sort of...you know...sexy!
Even though today's unique gift idea is low-tech by comparison, wonderfullywacky.com has cocktail glasses that closely simulate the idea behind the loving cups, is one of Baron Bob's coolest gadgets for "geeks in love" and perhaps inspiring enough that even Sextus Propertius would say, "I want one of those!"
The Techno Celebration Glass is guaranteed to add sparkles and smiles to any celebration. It measures 7 1/4" tall, is 4 1/2" at its widest width on the top and the battery will last for over 100 hours (when in operation) and is easily and inexpensively replaceable.
